Mrs. Evelyn Hill O'Brien, 76, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2016, at Caremoor Retirement Center in Kannapolis.
Mrs. O'Brien was born December 8, 1939 and grew up in Marshville, NC. She was the daughter of the late Clayton Allen Hill and Viola Preslar Hill. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Patrick O’Brien, a sister Opal Hill Deese and a brother Craven J. Hill.
She is survived by a sister Clara Hill Mills of Monroe and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was a 1958 graduate of Marshville High School and always wanted to travel and see the world. In December 1963 she began her career with Piedmont Airlines which later became USAirways. Evelyn had a long and exciting career. She worked and represented Piedmont Airlines in the company’s first International Flight from Charlotte to London. Evelyn made her home in Atlanta, GA for over 35 years. Everyone knew her to be vivacious, friendly and hardworking. She truly loved her career and enjoyed traveling the world with her friends and sharing her life with others. She never met a stranger. Evelyn retired from flying after 37 years of service.
As Evelyn neared retirement, she and her husband relocated to Concord, NC. Shortly thereafter she began her long hard battle with Alzheimers.
Evelyn was a faithful member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Riverdale, GA.
We are very grateful to the members of River Rock Church in Concord, NC for their support, visits and prayers during Evelyn’s long illness. With special thanks to Claduia and Ed Zawada, Jennie and David Cline and Ken Williams for their many visits and prayers through her illness. The family would also like to thank the staff of Caremoor Retirement Center for their excellent care given Evelyn during her stay and a heart felt thanks to her many friends which richly blessed her life.
