Frances Childrey Benson Hoke

Mrs. Frances Childrey Benson Hoke, 92, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2022, in New London.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Saturday, August 27, 2022, at St. John's Lutheran Church, with visitation to follow. Burial will be private.

Mrs. Hoke was born October 28, 1929 in Reidsville, NC to the late John W. Childrey and Georgia B. Childrey. She attended the Reidsville City Schools, and furthered her music education at Shenandoah Conservatory of Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA. She served as organist in churches of various denominations, but principally in Lutheran churches in Charlotte, NC in the sixties and seventies.

One of the most gratifying endeavors in her life was the joining of two families, which endured for the 33 years she was married to Harold R. Hoke, MD and to the very present.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Harold R. Hoke, MD; daughter, Jody Lynn Benson; son, Robert Steven Benson; and former husband, Robert W. Benson.

Fran's natural children who survive are Jerry Alan Benson and wife, Debra Palumbo Benson; daughter-in-law, Debbie Griffin Benson; her beloved Hoke children who survive are Virginia Ellen Hoke, S. Candice Hoke-Taylor and husband George Taylor, H. Reid Hoke, Jr. and Eric H. Hoke; grandchildren, Rachel Benson Cousar, Stacy Benson McClinton, Trent H. Taylor, Juliette A. Hoke, Oliver H. Hoke; five great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; sister, Sarah Childrey Filwood of Reidsville; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
