Frances Ruby Boone

Mrs. Frances Jackson Boone, 89, formerly of Kannapolis, passed away Saturday, December 3, 2016, at Stanly Manor in Albemarle.

A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at Trinity United Methodist Church. Rev. Kirk Tutterow will officiate. Entombment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park Mausoleum in Kannapolis.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 pm prior to the service at Trinity United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Boone was born April 5, 1927 in Asheville, NC. She was a daughter of the late Major Bynum Jackson and Pearl Cook Jackson. She retired from the Kannapolis City Schools where she taught at Jackson Park Elementary. While at Pfeiffer College and later High Point College, she was the starting point guard on the basketball teams. She would later get her teaching certificate from Appalachian State. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Teaching Sorority.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she was Director of Religious Education, taught Sunday school and helped co-found the Genesis Sunday school class. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and received the Laity Service Award in 1995. She enjoyed going on international trips with the mission building teams. She was also a member of the Kannapolis Pilot Club where she had served as President and was Pilot of the Year. She also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity.

Frances loved gardening, both vegetable and flowers, and enjoyed canning and cooking vegetables from her garden.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Forrest Boone, Sr.; three sisters, Thelma Godfrey, Christine Eugenides and Lois Godfrey; and a brother, Roscoe Jackson.

Mrs. Boone is survived by her daughter, Robin Boone Moose and husband Lyle of Albemarle; son, Edwin F. Boone, Jr. and wife Jan of Kannapolis; three sisters, Juanita Miller, Ruth Brooks and Jennie Lee Lawing, all of Asheville; brother, Ben Jackson of Colorado; four grandchildren, Jordan Cook, Jackson Boone, Tyler Moose and Emily Boone; and one great grandson, Carter Cook.

The family would like to thank the staff of Stanly Manor for the love and care that was provided to Frances. The family would also like to express heartfelt appreciation to her longtime friend and caregiver, Ronell Taylor.
