Mrs. Frances P. Staton, 96, of Landis, entered the Church Triumphant on Monday, November 17, 2025.
Born November 27, 1928, she was the only child of Oscar and Kate Hammill Poole. She graduated from Landis High School. She was an associate librarian at the Landis Public Library, later the South Rowan Regional Library. After retirement, she continued to work part-time at the library until she was 90.
Frances was a longtime, active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Landis, where she served in many ways throughout the years. Until Covid, she was an active volunteer with Main Street Mission in China Grove.
Survivors include her son, Alan Staton (Libby), and daughter, Lee Ann Staton Freeze, all of China Grove; and two grandsons, Alex Linn (Alex) of Chicago and James Staton of China Grove. She enjoyed her Friday lunches from Brian’s Grill with James. These continued until the Friday before her death. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James L. “Jim” Staton in 2015, and an infant daughter, Anne Clara Staton.
Services are scheduled for 11:00 am Friday, November 21, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Landis. Rev. Candice Carter will officiate and Alex Linn will serve as Lector. The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:45 am Friday at the church. A private burial will take place at a later date.
Frances was able to remain at home under hospice care this past year. She had a sharp sense of humor and the family is grateful to God for the extra year of love and laughter. The family would also like to thank her team of caregivers, the Landis Police Department, and the Landis Fire Department.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Trinity Lutheran Church, 108 West Rice Street, Landis, NC 28088.
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
