Gary Eugene Oakley

January 16, 1942 — February 11, 2012

Mr. Gary Eugene Oakley, 70, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2012 at CMC-NorthEast Medical Center.

A service is scheduled for 11:00 am, Wednesday, February 15, 2011, at First Baptist Church of Enochville. Mr. Oakley will lie in state for thirty minutes prior to the service. Rev. Steven Burrow and Rev. Lewis Whittington will officiate. Internment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, at Lady's Funeral Home.

Mr. Oakley was born January 16, 1942 in Cabarrus County. He was a son of the late Walter Link and Jeanette Oakley. He retired from Cannon Mills when the mill closed after thirty-nine years working as lead maintenance technician in the sewing department. He was a veteran of the US Navy.

Gary was a loving and wonderful husband and father. He was loved by everyone he touched. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Enochville where he served as head deacon. Gary enjoyed reading the Bible and studying the word. He also enjoyed fishing and talking with his daughter, Layla. He will be loved and missed forever.

A neighbor said, "The world was a better place for having a wonderful neighbor, father, husband and Christian man that enriched our lives greatly while here on earth. We will all miss him so much."

Survivors include his wife, Nina Greer Oakley; daughters, Layla Oakley of the home and Gina Hilton of China Grove; son, Gary Scott of China Grove; sisters, Doris Blackwelder of Landis and Josephine Stockton of Kannapolis; brother, David Oakley and his wife, Mary Ann of Salisbury; sister-in-law, Gladys Link of Rockwell and four grandchildren.

Lady's Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family of Mr. Oakley.
