Gene Reginald Ervin

Mr. Gene "Reggie" Reginald Ervin, 73, of Union Street North passed away Sunday, September 2, 2012 at his home.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 am Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at Concord First Assembly Worship Center. Pastor Rick Ross and Pastor Tom Whidden will officiate. Burial with military rites will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11:00 am Tuesday prior to the service at the church.

Mr. Ervin was born October 7, 1938 in Charlotte. He was a son of Pearlie Bumgardner Ervin of Hiddenite and the late Nelson Ervin. He graduated from North Mecklenburg High School in the Class of 1957 and attended Central Piedmont Community College. He was an 11 year veteran of the U.S. Army having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He received an Honorable discharge on May 23, 1969 and was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor in March of 1968. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam. Following his military service, Reggie worked for and retired from the U.S. Postal Service where he was a Postmaster. He was a member of Concord First Assembly and the Gideons International Cabarrus Camp.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry Ervin and Nelson T. Ervin.

Mr. Ervin, in addition to his mother, is survived by his wife, Kay Brown Ervin; two daughters, Debra Hayes of Rock Hill, SC and Leslie Eury and husband Ron of Concord; sister, Ethel Barnette of Mooresville; two brothers, John Ervin and wife Ginger of Hiddenite and Randolph Ervin and wife Elizabeth of Charlotte; special aunt, Eloise Hanline of Charlotte; and four grandchildren, Brandon Wagner, Cameron Smith, Chandler Smith and Kayla Eury.
