Another flower was added to God's garden on January 11, 2009, when Mrs. Geneva Query Kerley Reed, 86, of 7644 Monbo Road, had her homecoming in heaven. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of a daughter, Vera Hancock, 251 Briarcliff Drive, Kannapolis. A funeral service is scheduled for 3:00 pm Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at Concord United Methodist Church. Rev. Byron Alexander and Rev. Roger Sailors will officiate. The body will lie in-state at the church from 1:00 - 2:30 pm. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Reed was born November 4, 1922 in Iredell County, NC. She was a daughter of the late Mather Marvin Query and Lula McDaniel Query. She retired from Cannon Mills where she worked as an inspector in the Sewing Room. She was a member of North Kannapolis Pilgram Holiness/Wesleyan Church for 48 years and Concord United Methodist Church for 20 years. In 1999, she was the recipient of the United Methodist Church Laity Award, which is a national award that recognized her for the service to the church. In the Mooresville area, she was known as the Doughnut and Pie Lady. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Reed; sister, Odessa Mullis; and two grandchildren, Dwayne and Angel. Mrs. Reed is survived by three daughters, Maxine Huffman of Elon, Vera Hancock and husband, Jimmy, of Kannapolis, Reneè Reinheardt of Catawba; two sons, Jimmy Kerley and wife, Judy, of Landis, Bennie Kerley and wife, Eve, of Kannapolis; two sisters, Elizabeth Lambert of Kannapolis, Louise Leazer of Elon; 17 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Concord United Methodist Church, Children's Ministry Fund, 7618 Monbo Road, Catawba, NC 28609.
