Mr. Gerald Legrand Meggs, 88, passed away Sunday, August 23, 2026, at his home in Concord.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm to 1:45 pm Saturday at Lady's Funeral Home.

Gerald was born July 17, 1938 in Columbus County. He was a son of the late Robert Meggs and Kathleen Baldwin Meggs. He worked for the NC Department of Corrections as a Maintenance Technician. Mr. Meggs was a loving family man, especially to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He had a deep love for his beagles and enjoyed spending time hunting.

In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Legrand Meggs and his sister, Muriel Simmons.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Betty Buffkin Meggs; two daughters, Debbie Taylor and husband Craig of Mooresville and Teresa Jarvis of Raleigh; two brothers, Bobby Meggs and wife Lola of Riegelwood and Kenneth Meggs of Maggie Valley; three granddaughters, Ashley Carriker and husband Rex, Haleigh Wilkes and Amber Taylor; grandson, Jeffrey Taylor and four great grandchildren, Rex Carriker, Jr., Mason Furr, Layla Taylor, and Ace Carriker.
