Gracie Black Young

August 20, 1917 — November 24, 2004

Mrs. Gracie Black Young, 87, a resident of the Brian Center in Mooresville and formerly of Marietta Drive in Concord, died Wednesday, November 24, 2004, at the Brian Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Friday, November 26, 2004, at First Presbyterian Church in Kannapolis. Dr. Joseph R. Crawford will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Friday at the church. At other times they will be at the home of a daughter, Lou Shankle, 9906 Seymour Lane, Davidson, NC. Born August 20, 1917, in Rockingham, NC, she was a daughter of the late Jim Black and Mary Jane McInnis Black. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Kannapolis and retired several years ago from the Washcloth Department of Cannon Mills, Plant One. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Adam Young; seven sisters, Esther Plott, Mary Patterson, Gertrude Elliott, Myrtle Widenhouse, Elsie Carter, Deanie Bowman and Lizzie Reynolds; and a brother, Curtis Black. Survivors include two daughters, Loretta Young of Kannapolis, Lou Shankle and her husband, Burt, of Davidson; and a son, Frank Overby of Davidson. Memorials may be sent to First Presbyterian Church, 201 Vance Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
