Hallie Mae Tucker Gray

September 30, 1920 — June 17, 2010

Jesus called Hallie Mae Tucker Gray into his presence and her heavenly home on Thursday, June 17, 2010. Her work here was finished, and she left a legacy that few can match. 2nd Timothy 4:7-8: "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day." She was truly a Proverbs 31 woman, and her children rise up and call her blessed. She was born on September 30, 1920 in Concord. Being a true disciple of Christ, she never complained and always put others first. She rejoiced that she could spread her Savior's message by singing in the choir and teaching Sunday school for 50 years at West Concord Baptist Church, which she loved. As an expert seamstress, clothing designer and craft artisan, she loved sharing the fruit of her labors with others. She enjoyed making christening gowns, wedding gowns, porcelain dolls and character costumes for her children and grandchildren. She loved sharing her talents by teaching her family and friends. She was the recipient of many blue ribbons at the Cabarrus County Fair for her excellent workmanship. She delivered meals on wheels, worked for the Board of Elections, was a member of Home Extension and Queen Mom of the West Concord Red Hat Society. She was an inspiration to her entire family, as we all looked to her for wisdom, guidance and true spiritual leadership. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren adored her and loved to be in her presence. She made everyone feel special. Being the Godly mother, she trained up her children in the way of the Lord and instructed us to hide the Word in our hearts so we would not depart from it. She was instrumental in the salvation of her family. In the past year she made her home at Concord Place, where she taught a Bible Study and led craft classes. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, James Edward "June Bug" Gray, and before he departed for Heaven they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Eugene and Lucy Ann Widenhouse Tucker, her brother, Wilburn Tucker, her sisters, Jocelyne Cobb, Gladys Woods and Edith Starnes, and a grandson, Robert Lee James, Jr. She is survived by her children: Jerry Earl Gray (Susie), Richard Darrell Gray (Gloria), Sherry Gray Harris (Richard), Debby Gray Cox (Philip "Sonny"), and her adopted son, Richard Gordon Tucker (Vicky). Grandchildren: Rick Gray, Randy Gray (Heather), Scott Harris (Lucinda), Rick Harris, Chris Harris (Megan), Angie Harris Childers (Kelly), Meshelle Cox, Marty Cox (Jennifer), Jamey Cox (Sharon), Michael Tucker, Rich Tucker. Great-grandchildren: Kristen, Lauren, Michael, Hunter and Dalton Gray; Mercedes Shelton; Carley, Corey, Hallie, Analise and Benjamin Cox; Hannah, Lindsay, Abby, Will, Avery, Zachary, Elizabeth and Sarah Margaret Harris; Christian, Caroline and Cameron Childers; great-great-grandchildren: Alexis, Makayla, Peyton and Bryson. A service to celebrate the life of Hallie Mae Tucker Gray and her coronation into Heaven will be held at West Concord Baptist Church, 225 Warren C. Coleman Boulevard (Highway 601 South), Concord, NC, on Sunday, June 20, 2010 at 3 p.m. The Rev. Mike Farley and the Rev. Leon Smith will officiate. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. Our loss is Heaven's gain, for no one can replace her in our hearts. Matthew 25:23: Well done, good and faithful servant .....enter thou into the joy of the Lord.
