Harlin Elmo Barts

Mr. Harlin Elmo Barts, 89, formerly of Turkey Road, Kannapolis, passed away Monday, May 23, 2011, at Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, FL. A funeral service is scheduled for 3:00 pm Sunday, May 29, 2011, at Lane Street Baptist Church. Dr. Jonathan Casteel will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 pm Saturday at Lady's Funeral Home. Mr. Barts was born March 23, 1922 in Kannapolis. He was the son of the late Millard Barts and Marie Brown Barts. He retired from Cannon Mills where he worked on Air Conditioning and Refrigeration and previously worked at Glen L. Martin in Maryland and at Aberdeen Proving Ground. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in World War II. He was a member of Lane Street Baptist Church and Poston Perkins VFW Post 8989. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dixie Long Barts in 2009; and son, Kevin Michael Barts. Mr. Barts is survived by his daughter, Brenda Hann Purdin and husband, Delbert of Brooksville, FL; four sisters, Sue Springer, Kathy Lackey and Juanita Cole, all of Florida and Beverly Gantt of Vale, NC; three grandchildren, Todd Hann and wife, Elena, Mark Hann and wife, Debbie and Tammy Cassera and husband, Tom; and seven grandchildren, Brent, Brittany, Sara, Carrie, Abby, Emily and Micah. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lane Street Baptist Church, 2532 Lane Street, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
