Harold Cleveland Jenkins

January 24, 1928 — June 25, 2017

Mr. Harold Cleveland Jenkins, 89, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 25, 2017, at his residence, with his wife by his side.

A family graveside service is scheduled for 11:00 am Thursday, June 29, 2017, at Carolina Memorial Park. Dr. Wayne Allen will officiate. Interment will follow at the cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm at Epworth United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends following the memorial service at the church.

Mr. Jenkins was born January 24, 1928 in Matthews, NC. He was the son of the late Grover Cleveland Jenkins and Nancy "Nannie" Lowder. Harold worked for General Motors and Ford Motor Company in their Claims Department, retiring from Ford in 1986. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean conflict. He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, a volunteer worker at the Historic Courthouse, Hospice, Reed Gold Mine Gold History Board, Jaycees, and served on the Cabarrus 1996 Bicentennial Committee designing the calendar and its illustrations. He was a Life Member of the Concord Lions Club and a past President. He received many awards as editor of the Concord Lions newsletter. Mr. Jenkins received the North Carolina Society of Historians Award for his book of short stories, "Memories of a Concord School Boy".

Mr. Jenkins is survived by his wife of 29 years, Georgianne Hightower Jenkins; three daughters, Jeannie Jenkins and husband Michael Mishkind of Bennington, VT, Beth Ann Pickelsimer and husband Charles of Brevard and Eve Carol Parker and husband Bill; three step-sons, John Carson Cato and wife Mary Margaret of Cornelius, Thomas Edgar Cato of Marion, SC and James Mark Cato and wife Beth of Ocala, FL; step-daughter, Charlotte Lynn Cato of Cape Coral, FL; 15 grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and brother, Kenneth C. Jenkins of Albemarle.

Memorials may be made to the Epworth United Methodist Church Altar Guild or Music Program, 1030 Burrage Road NE, Concord, NC 28025 or to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
