Helen Williams Moss

September 6, 1935 — November 3, 2022

Helen Williams Moss, 87, of Kannapolis passed away peacefully at home with her daughters by her side on Thursday, November 3, 2022. Born September 6, 1935 in Kannapolis, she was the wife of the late Harlon "Sonny" Moss to whom she was married for 48 years; the daughter of the late Robert S. Williams and Mabel M. Williams; and the older sister of the late Guy R. Williams. Helen is also preceded in death by her loyal companion of 13 years, Moses, a rescued Lhasa Apso who passed in October 2021.

Helen graduated from the J.W. Cannon High School. She was a retired employee of Fieldcrest-Cannon Mills, and upon retiring volunteered at The Helping Hands Thrift Store in Landis, a mission of North Kannapolis Baptist Church. As a young adult, Helen worked at the candy counter at Roses Dime Store. She always said that selling candy at Roses was her most favorite job.

Helen was a life-long member of North Kannapolis Baptist Church and attended faithfully until her lack of mobility kept her at home. She attended the Women's Sunday School Class, served on the Hospitality Committee, the Decorating Committee and the Funeral Meal Committee. She also loved serving hotdogs at the annual Fall Festival and refreshments at Vacation Bible School. She dearly loved her church family.

A service celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday at 11 o'clock, November 8, 2022 at North Kannapolis Baptist Church with Dr. Keith Pisani and Reverend John Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 10:45 am at North Kannapolis Baptist Church prior to the service.

Helen is survived by two daughters, Debbie H. Motley and husband Fred; Leslie M. Starnes and husband Greg; and three grandsons, Spencer R. Starnes, Austin C. Starnes, and Isaac M. Hammonds all of whom were her pride and joy. She is also survived by her sister, Phyllis K. Beaver; nieces, Lindsay B. Tedder (Jeff) and Meredith B. Overcash (Brian); and nephew, Guy R. Williams Jr.

Debbie and Leslie wish to express their utmost love and gratitude to their caregivers that were able to endure to the end of their mother's life: Krista Howard, Deborah Hutto, Angela Pender, and Tonya Swaringen; and the Nursing Staff (Tiffany and Amy), Chaplain Maureen and Social Worker Sandy and the staff at Hospice of Cabarrus County. The dedication to their mother and to them was superior.

Memorials may be sent to North Kannapolis Baptist Church (Children's Ministry), 312 Locust Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081 in memory of Mrs. Moss or to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
