Howard Taft Poston

Howard Taft Poston, 86, of 114 McCray Avenue, Kannapolis, walked with his Lord and Savior on Monday, October 12, 2009. Born October 29, 1922 in Mooresville, Mr. Poston was the son of the late Walter Lee Poston and Katie Belle Brown Poston. Howard graduated from China Grove High School. After serving in the US Navy during World War II in South Africa, England and France, he graduated from Rowan Community College with a degree, with honors, in drafting. He was employed by the Engineering Department of Cannon Mills for over 30 years. Howard was a charter member of Memorial United Methodist Church serving in numerous leadership positions. His carpentry skills can be seen in many areas of the Church as evidence of his great love for his Church family. Howard was a Life Member of the Royal Oaks Optimist Club holding both local and state offices. He was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters. Howard is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Sarah McCool Poston. Howard and Sarah would have celebrated their sixty-fifth wedding anniversary on October 22. In addition, he is survived by a daughter, Judy Kaye Poston Brown; grandson, Edward Taft Brown and wife, Joanna; granddaughter, Holly Sarita Brown; two great-granddaughters, Morgan Elizabeth Brown and Adison Kae Brown; and two sisters, Hazel Poston Ross and Nell Poston Wall. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Jim Brookshire will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:45 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service. At other times, they will be at the home. The family would like to express its gratitude for all the visits, calls, cards and prayers received during Howard's five years of declining health.
