Hugh Dorsey Bridges

January 8, 1927 — June 25, 2019

Mr. Hugh Dorsey Bridges, 92, of Kannapolis, went peacefully to his Heavenly home on Tuesday, June 25, 2019, surrounded by his family and loved ones.

The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:45 pm Saturday, July 13, 2019, at Jackson Park Baptist Church in Kannapolis. His celebration of life service with military honors will be immediately following at 4:00 pm conducted by Pastor J. R. Beaver.

Mr. Bridges will be buried at Meadow Baptist Church in Comer, GA at a later date.

Mr. Bridges was born January 8, 1927 in Madison County, GA. He was a son of the late Toombs Bridges and Quilla Bell Graham Bridges. He was a faithful member of Jackson Park Baptist Church since 1990. Mr. Bridges was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving for six years in the U.S. Army. In WWII, he served in the Big Red 1 Army Unit as part of the occupational force in Germany. He was formerly employed by Cannon Mills and Corriher Mills for 40 years, and worked for many years at the TownHouse II restaurant after his retirement.

Mr. Bridges loved his Lord and his family very dearly. He was always there whenever his family, friends or neighbors needed him.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by five brothers; and three sisters.

Mr. Bridges is survived by his wife of 71 years, Rachel Frances Dean Bridges; a daughter, Sandra B. Hardin and husband David of Kannapolis; a son, Ken W. Bridges and wife Renae of Mt. Pleasant; a brother, Talmadge Bridges and wife Ann of Danielsville, GA; four grandchildren, Deana Thompson and husband Allen, Jason David and wife Julie, Allison Hines and husband Michael, all of Kannapolis, and Nick Bridges of Mt. Pleasant; nine great grandchildren, Wesley David and wife Hannah, Caroline David, Emily David, Maddox Hines, Kenleigh Hines, Roman Bridges, Heather Thompson Little, Nathan Thompson and Stephanie Smith; seven great-great grandchildren; and countless nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be sent to Jackson Park Baptist Church Building Fund, 1005 Jackson Street, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
