Irene Sweatt Mullis

Mrs. Irene Sweatt Mullis, 87, formerly of South East Avenue, Kannapolis, died Sunday, July 4, 2004, at NorthEast Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 8, 2004, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Robert D. Howard will officiate. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Lady's Funeral Home. Mrs. Mullis was born September 2, 1916 in Marlboro County, SC. She was a daughter of the late Eugene Milton Sweatt and Janie Elizabeth Sweatt. She retired from Cannon Mills after working 36 years in the #7 Spool Room of Plant 1 in Kannapolis. She was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church. Mrs. Mullis is survived by two daughters, Carole Carithers of Kannapolis and Marie Willis of Mooresville; two sons, Russell Dean Driggers of Azle, TX and Glen Driggers of Kannapolis; sister, Ella Mae Sweatt of Florence, SC; fourteen grandchildren, and a number of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
