J C Nelms

Mr. J C Nelms, 81, of 809 West C Street, Kannapolis, died Monday, December 15, 2003, at NorthEast Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 17, 2003, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Otis Snow and the Rev. David Christy will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. At other times they will be at the residence. Born February 16, 1922, in Franklin County, Georgia, he was a son of the late J. J. Nelms and Minnie Bray Nelms. He retired several years ago as an overseer in the Wet Finishing Department of Cannon Mills where he was employed for 45 years. He had lived in this area for 60 years and was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church. Mr. Nelms was a US Air Force veteran of World War II and served in the Flying Tigers. Survivors include his wife, Johnsie Winecoff Nelms; a daughter, Sandra Gaskey and her husband, Steve, of Kannapolis; a son, Kenneth Nelms and his wife, Mary, of Kannapolis; one sister, Pat Chism of Greenville, SC; and four grandchildren, Stephanie Rudolph of Emerald Isle, NC, Jessica Sharpe of Kernersville, Chad Nelms and Jason Nelms, both of Kannapolis.
