Mr. Jack Nolan Stewart, 79, of Chapel Street, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2011, at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis. A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Dennis Morgan will officiate. Entombment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in China Grove. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 pm Wednesday at Lady's Funeral Home. Mr. Stewart was born December 24, 1931 in Rowan County. He was a son of the late Major Robert Stewart and Nellie Lynn Farrel Stewart. He retired from Greyhound Bus Line where he was in the Packaging and Shipping Department. Jack was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds as a pitcher, but while at Spring Training Camp in Tampa, FL, he was drafted again, this time by the U.S. Army and served in Korea. He was a member of Skyland Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Orrie Geraldine Heath Stewart; two daughters, Patricia Ann White and Carolyn Renea Hammock; son, David Lynn Stewart; a sister, Frances Gail Lentz; and brother, Robert "Bobby" Stewart. Mr. Stewart is survived by two sisters, Helen Sides and Margie Farrel Kincaid, both of Landis; six grandchildren, Sharon Stewart, Loren "Binky" White and wife, Jennifer, Missi Tan and husband, Andrew, Jackie Blackmon and husband, Bo, Jenny Stewart, and David Stewart, Jr.; and two great grandchildren, Cherokee and Blake Blackmon. Memorials may be sent to Skyland Baptist Church, 200 S. Little Texas Road, Kannapolis, NC 28083 or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
