Mr. James Delmar Barbee, Jr., 72, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2014, at CMC-NorthEast in Concord.
A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Monday, July 7, 2014, at North Kannapolis Baptist Church. Rev. Mark Eudy, Rev. Buck Canup and Rev. Chris O'Guin will officiate. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
The family will receive friends from 12 to 1:30 pm Monday at North Kannapolis Baptist Church.
Mr. Barbee was born October 26, 1941 in Cabarrus County. He was a son of the late James Delmar Barbee, Sr. and Auttie Mae Myers Barbee. He retired from Fieldcrest-Cannon where he was on the carpentry team in plant maintenance. He was a member of North Kannapolis Baptist Church where, along with his wife, he was a Sunday school teacher in the Primary Department for 45 years. He volunteered with the NC Baptist Aging Ministry helping build ramps at the homes of the physically challenged. He loved working with children and helping those in need. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed making projects for others.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Martha Laney Barbee.
Mr. Barbee is survived by son, J. Steven “Steve” Barbee and wife Dawn of Kannapolis; daughter, Mary Ann Barbee Jeschke of Green Bay, WI; sister, Janice B. Furr and husband Larry of Midland; five brothers, Gene Barbee and wife Diane of Royal, AR, John Barbee and wife Ann of Concord, Larry Barbee and wife Blanche of Gold Hill, Steve Barbee of Rutherfordton and Worth Barbee and wife Diane of Cartersville, GA; brother-in-law, Roger Laney and wife Betty of Kannapolis; grandson, Kristopher Odom; and special granddog, Destiny.
