James Phillip Efird

Mr. James “Phil” Phillip Efird, 70, went to be with Jesus on Sunday, August 31, 2014 at Big Elm Nursing and Retirement Center.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, September 4, 2014, at Carolina Memorial Park. Rev. Charles M. Efird will officiate.

Mr. Efird was born on May 29, 1944 in Cabarrus County a son of the late R.M. Efird and Lottie Poole Efird. Phil was a graduate of A.L. Brown High School and later received degrees from Lees McRae Junior College and Pfeiffer College. He obtained his Master of Arts degree from the Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond, VA.

For several years he served as Director of Christian Education at Graham Presbyterian Church and Lumberton Presbyterian Church.

As a member of First Presbyterian Church in Kannapolis, he was an ordained deacon and served as a senior high youth advisor, a member of the choir and worked with Troop 36, B.S.A. His community involvement included working with the Cabarrus County Work Shop and serving as a Cabarrus County Intensive Probation Officer.

Mr. Efird is survived by his sister, Jean Bost and husband, Darrell; two brothers, Rev. Charles M. Efird and wife, Kathy, and R. Don Efird, Sr. and wife, Iris; and nieces and nephews.
