Mr. James Douglas Hatley, 77, passed away Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Atrium Health Cabarrus in Concord.

A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Rev Bill Sirginson will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 1:45 pm Saturday at Lady's Funeral Home.

James was born March 28, 1949 in Charlotte. He was the son of the late Rev. James David Hatley and Jean Braswell Hatley. A former resident of Charlotte, he graduated from Independence Senior High School in Charlotte in 1968 and was also a member of the Idlewild Volunteer Fire Department in Charlotte. He later worked for 20 years as a auto mechanic at Hinson Automotive in Midland, NC. Following his retirement, he worked in the automotive department at Sears in Concord. He attended First Wesleyan Church in Kannapolis. His involvement as a Ham Radio operator was a great joy in his life.

James is survived by his wife, Brenda Adcock Hatley; two step-sons, Chad Drye and wife Yvonne and Todd Drye and wife Danielle all of Concord; sister, Brenda Boyles and husband Don of Concord; five grandchildren, Kelsey Drye, Nathaniel Drye,Owen Drye, Winston Drye and Mackenzie Drye.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First Wesleyan Church, 301 Bethpage Road, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
