James Mack Kerley

Mr. James Mack Kerley, a perfect example of a man who was always more willing to give than to receive, to his family and friends alike, died Thursday, May 28, 2009, at the Bob and Carolyn Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis. He was 87 years old and a resident of 545 Collins Street. A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Sunday, May 31, 2009, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Gene Edwards will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis. The family will receive friends from 7:00 - 9:00 pm Saturday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times the family will make headquarters at the home of a son, Bennie Kerley, 2840 Cannon Farm Road, China Grove. Mr. Kerley was born December 11, 1921 in Taylorsville, NC. He was a son of the late Harlan Kerley and Grace Laws Kerley. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during WWII. Mr. Kerley is survived by his wife, Ruth Kerley; four daughters, Vera Hancock and husband Jimmy of Kannapolis, Maxine Huffman of Elon and Renee Reinheardt of Catawba, Carolyn Tucker and husband Bob of Concord; two sons, Bennie Kerley and wife Eve of China Grove and Jimmy Kerley and wife Judy of Landis; brother, L. D. Kerley of Huntersville; three sisters, Edna Ballard and Betty Beaver, both of Kannapolis and Mattie Dancy of Concord; 21 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren. Memorials for Mr. Kerley may be made to Cabarrus County Hospice and Palliative Care, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
