James Walter Shoemaker Sr.

July 11, 1935 — July 25, 2021

Rev. James Walter Shoemaker, Sr., peacefully went to his Heavenly home on Sunday, July 25, 2021.

A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Thursday, July 29, 2021, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. R.J. "Beaver" Hammond will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.

The family will receive friends from 12 to 1:45 pm Thursday at Lady's Funeral Home.

“Jake” was a Baptist minister, veteran of the US Army and worked in Cannon Mills Plant Six until the plant closed. He was the owner and operator of Shoemaker Siding and Home Repairs until retirement. Jake loved singing and preaching, he never missed a chance to talk to anyone about the Lord.

He was born July 11, 1935 to the late Walter Lee Shoemaker and Daisey Creed.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Shoemaker; grandson, Christopher Coone; niece, Donna Gravens; two brothers, Chock Shoemaker and Richard Shoemaker; and two sisters, Agnes Hinson and Judy Furr.

Jake is survived by his son, James “Doodle” Shoemaker (Terri); daughter, Tina Coone (Fred); granddaughter, Jessica Shoemaker; grandsons, Bradley James Coone, Cody Justin Coone and Zack Carpenter; two great granddaughters, Emma and Kaydee Coone; nephew, Fred Carpenter; two brothers, Dennis Shoemaker (Vickie) and Grady Shoemaker; three sisters, Annie Barrier, Reba Shoe and Mary Smetzer (Paul); and numerous nieces and nephews.
