Mrs. Janie Burrage Horton, 91, formerly of Surburban Avenue, Kannapolis, and later of the Concord Place Assisted Living Center, died Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at the Hospice House of Cabarrus County. Funeral services will be conducted in Lady's Funeral Home Chapel at noon Saturday. The Rev. David Hobson will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Concord. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:30 until 11:30 a.m. Saturday prior to the service. She was born in Cabarrus County on October, 24, 1916, a daughter of the late Robert Luther Burrage, Sr., who owned and operated the Cabarrus Creamery in Concord and the late Mattie Forrest Burrage. Mrs. Horton was employed with the Cabarrus Surgical Clinic for over 22 years until her retirement in 1978. After retirement, she worked with Hospice, and was a volunteer with NorthEast Medical Center. A member of Forest Hills United Methodist Church, she served on the administrative board, and was a member of the Sunday school, the Caregivers, and the United Methodist Women. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Howell Horton who died in February 2000; a sister, Lucy Ridenhour; and two brothers, Robert and Charles Burrage. Survivors include her daughter, Martha Horton Garmon of Concord; four grandchildren, Keith Garmon, Kelly Zeigler, Kristen Edwards, and Kerry Garmon; four great-grandchildren, Anna and Caroline Zeigler, Ryan and Rinnah Rose Edwards. Memorials for Mrs. Horton may be sent to Forest Hills United Methodist Church, 265 North Union Street, Concord, NC 28025.
