Janie Brooks Wampler

Mrs. Janie Brooks Wampler, 104, of 5920 McChesney Drive, Charlotte, died Friday, December 11, 2009 at The Haven in Highland Creek. Mrs. Wampler was born October 2, 1905 in Union County, NC, a daughter of the late James Thomas Brooks and Martha E. Smith Brooks. She was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles Herbert Baker, a Charlotte Police Office who was killed in the line of duty in 1941, and Eugene W. Wampler, who died in 2004. She was also preceded in death by nine brothers and five sisters. She is survived by her stepson, Eugene W. Wampler, Jr. and wife, Sarah, of Rock Hill, SC; 13 nieces and nephews, Bessie Rae Parker, Lelia McGraw, Carrell Brooks, and Gail Austin, all of Concord, Edna Deaton of Maiden, Eloise White of Stanfield, Alice Biggers, Sue Conner and Shirley Brooks, all of Charlotte, C. B. Brooks of Midland, Joe Brooks of Aiken, SC, Libby Hurley of Salisbury, and Judy Blanton of Rockville, MD. A graveside service will conducted Monday, December 14, 2009 at 2:00 pm at Carolina Memorial Park with the Rev. Leon Hawks officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Monday at Lady's Funeral Home in Kannapolis.
