Mr. Jay Mack "Cornbread Red" Ervin, Jr., 79, of Kannapolis, died Friday, July 14, 2006, at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 16, 2006, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Tim Newton will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at their respective homes. Born September 20, 1926, in Iredell County, he was the son of the late Jay Mack Ervin and Nola Lee Childers Ervin. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II, where he served in Jacksonville, Fla. as a firefighter. He was a truck driver for Central Motor Lines and Pilot Trucking for 35 years. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters No. 710. An avid golfer, he was a former member of the Cannon Country Club. His wife, Geneva Estelle Woodard Ervin, preceded him in death on June 30, 1996. Survivors include a daughter, Bobbie Ellington of Lexington; a grandson, Mark Ellington and wife, Tammy, of Landis; and a great-granddaughter, Amanda Ellington.
