Mrs. Jean Marie Sims Kirkman, 77, of 1216 Berkshire Drive, died Friday, October 2, 2009, at Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast in Concord. A funeral service is scheduled for 3:00 pm Sunday, October 4, 2009, at Bethpage Presbyterian Church, where she was a lifelong member. Rev. Darryl Baker will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:45 pm Sunday in the church Fellowship Hall. At other times, the family will be at her residence. Mrs. Kirkman was born November 20, 1931 in Cabarrus County. She was the daughter of the late James Foy "Bud" Sims and Marie Elizabeth Fisher Sims. She was a graduate of J.W. Cannon High School. She was previously employed as a social assistant with the Cabarrus County School System. In more recent years, she owned and operated Total Learning Center on Russell Street where she was a mother and grandmother to all of the children. Jean devoted her life to her children, grandchildren and great grandchild. Her lovingly prepared Sunday meals will be truly missed by her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Douglas "Bill" Kirkman, Sr., on December 19, 1977. Mrs. Kirkman is survived by a daughter, Deborah Triece husband Randy of Kannapolis; two sons, Doug Kirkman wife Glenda of Concord and Danny Kirkman wife Elizabeth of Concord; eight grandchildren, Brooke K. Iosue husband Mike, Ross Kirkman, Ryan Kirkman, Doug Kirkman, Tanner Triece, Rebecca Kirkman, Madison Kirkman and Meredith Kirkman; and a great granddaughter, Braelyn Iosue.
