On January 6th, 2025, Jean Smith Davis shook loose her mortal coil and flew off on her next adventure.
Born Mary Jean Mills in March 1934, to Andrew J. Mills and Mary Elizabeth Upright Mills of Landis, NC. Jean was educated in the Rowan County Schools and graduated from Landis High School, Class of 1952. Jean married her husband of 51 years, Jimmie Talmadge Smith, Sr in 1953. She became a mother of three children and in 1957, she graduated cosmetology school in Charlotte and owned her own beauty salon from her home in Landis. In 1965, the family moved to Florence, SC where she became employed in several business until they were relocated to Charlotte in 1971 where she eventually retired from Eckerd Drug Company. While in Charlotte, Jean sang in the Charlotte Chorale Society, and enjoyed performing in the annual Singing Christmas Tree. They relocated to Kannapolis in 2000, where they remained until the time of her death.
Jean was proceeded in death by her parents, brother Dale Mills and sister Margaret Mills Propst, her son Jimmie Talmadge Smith, II and her husband Jimmie Talmadge Smith, Sr. She was also proceeded by her second husband, Calvin Bruce Davis.
Jean is survived by her son, Mark Smith (Denise) of Kannapolis, NC and her Daughter Mary Alice Perreault (Douglass) of Aquadale, NC, eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jean, a life long Lutheran, attended church at Kimball Lutheran Church in Kannapolis, NC where she enjoyed singing in the choir.
Service will be held on Saturday, January 11th at Kimball Lutheran Church in Kannapolis, NC. Family will receive at 1 PM. Service will begin at 2 PM with interment following in the wall at Carolina Memorial Cemetery, Kannapolis, NC.
