Jerry B. Pless

Mr. Jerry B. Pless, 77, of 403 S. Upright Street, Landis, died Tuesday, July 12, 2005, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, SC. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2005, at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Jarrod Lanning will officiate. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Lady's Funeral Home in Kannapolis. At other times they will be at the home of a daughter, Patty Williams, 720 Amherst Court, China Grove. Born September 17, 1927, in Rowan County, he was the son of the late F. B. Pless and Laura Ann Barger Pless. He was a retired educator and administrator with the Rowan Salisbury Schools where he was employed for more than 35 years. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was a US Army Veteran of World War II. He formerly played major league baseball with the Cincinnati Reds and was a coach for the Rowan Salisbury Schools for over twenty years. Survivors include two daughters, Patty Williams and husband, John, and Sharon Russell and husband, Zeb, all of China Grove; three grandchildren, Alex Query, Lisa Bracewell and Candace Williams; and four great-grandchildren.
