Jessie Koon Avant

Mrs. Jessie Koon Avant, 91, a resident of Genesis Eldercare of Salisbury and formerly of Glenwood Street, passed away Monday, December 27, 2010, at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. A graveside service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 pm Wednesday at Lady's Funeral Home. Mrs. Avant was born May 28, 1919 in Rowan County. She was a daughter of the late Lewis Henderson Koon and Myrtle Misenheimer Koon. She owned and operated The Flower Shop in Landis and later worked at Mills Florist in Kannapolis. She was a member of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband George Marvin Avant; two sisters, Helen Owens and Willie Morgan, and brother, Frank Koon. Mrs. Avant is survived by two brothers, Lewis "Bill" Koon of Faith, and Robert "Bob" Koon of Oak Island; two sisters, Edna K. Coogler of Irma, SC and Frances K. Livengood of Salisbury; and a number of nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church, 101 Vance Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
