Jessie Claude Dover, Sr.

Mr. Jessie Claude "J.C." Dover, Sr., 94, of 903 N. Chapel Street, Landis, NC went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 8, 2003. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday, May 10, 2003, at South China Grove Baptist Church. Rev. Derald Adams will officiate. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove. The body will remain at Lady's Funeral Home until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 PM Friday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the residence. Mr. Dover was born May 8, 1909 in Stephens County, GA. He was a son of the late Robert Nathaniel Dover and Lillie Magnolia Allen Dover. He retired several years ago from the Yarn and Dye Department of Cannon Mills, Plant One in Kannapolis. Mr. Dover had lived in this area since 1942. He was a member of South China Grove Baptist Church and was a former chairman of deacons, Sunday School teacher, and served on several pulpit committees. In addition to his parents, Mr. Dover was preceded in death by a son, Jessie C. Dover, Jr., on April 19, 2001. Mr. Dover is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Brooks Dover; two daughters, Janeva Sides and her husband, Ronnie, of Kannapolis, and Cherry Lewis of Landis; son, Calvin Dover, and his wife, Marlene, of China Grove; eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, six great step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
