Jimmie Lawrence Childers

Jimmie Lawrence Childers, 64, of 2307 Ellerbe Drive, Kannapolis, died Friday, December 1, 2006, at Five Oaks Manor. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, December 4, 2006, at Franklin Heights Baptist Church. The Rev. Jim Grigg and the Rev. Tim Jernigan will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence. Born February 12, 1942, in Cabarrus County, he was the son of the late Atwell Jeffie Childers and Melzie Shook Childers. A veteran of the US Army, he was formerly employed as a truck driver for MGM Transportation in High Point and Foothills Trucking in Statesville. He was a member of Franklin Heights Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and greeter. Survivors include his wife, Linda Prevette Childers; two daughters, Leslie Ann Matthews and husband, Raymond, and Jamie Lynn Banks and husband, Bill, all of Kannapolis; one son, Mark Allen Childers and wife, Julie, of Mooresville; two sisters, Sharon Greene of Landrum, SC and Shelby Jean Linker of Kannapolis; a brother, Terry Childers of Kannapolis; and six grandchildren, Lynsey Kay Banks, Dylan Parker Banks, Bradley Gene Matthews, Kaylee Ann Matthews, Colson Allen Childers and Connor Grant Childers. Memorials may be sent to Franklin Heights Baptist Church, 526 Wright Avenue, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
