John William Overcash

January 2, 1904 — April 25, 2002

Mr. John William Overcash, 98, a resident of Transitional Health Services of Kannapolis, and formerly of 3741 Shiloh Church Rd., Davidson, died Thursday, April 25, 2002, at Transitional Health Services. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Enoch Lutheran Church. The Rev. John Mark Beam III will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. At other times they will be at the residence. Born January 2, 1904, in Rowan County, he was a son of the late Mack Overcash and the late Relle Rogers Overcash. Mr. Overcash was a retired farmer and sawmill operator. He formerly was employed in the Slasher Room at Cannon Mills, Plant One in Kannapolis. He was a lifelong resident of this area, and was the oldest member of St. Enoch Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Freeze Overcash, who died October 8, 2000, and a son, Elbert Leonard "Bud" Overcash, who died June 22, 1985. Survivors include three daughters, Margie F. Shepherd of Concord, Lola Mae Herriot of Naples, FL, and Louise Elwood of Davidson; a sister, Esther Wilson Sloop of Kannapolis; one brother, C. M. "Tom" Overcash of Kannapolis; 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren. Memorials may be sent to St. Enoch Lutheran Church, 701 Campbell Avenue, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
