John Perry Steen, Sr.

Mr. Steen, age 98, passed away Sunday, December 20, 2009 at Autumn Care Nursing Center in Marshville, NC. Born July 22, 1911 in Ruby, SC, he was the son of the late T. W. and Mollie Steen. In addition to his parents, Perry was preceded in death by three siblings: Clarence Steen of Salisbury, NC; Reverend Harold Steen of Red Oak, NC; and Sara Steen Taylor of Rockingham, NC. Mr. Steen is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dorothy Mills Steen; three children, John P. Steen, Jr. and wife Jean of Conway, SC, Deborah S. Cruse and husband, Stan of Summerville, SC, and Beverly S. Beal and husband Bryan of Lincolnton, NC; four grandchildren, Rebecca Steen, Stanley Cruse, Ben Beal and Bayley Beal. Mr. Steen retired from Cannon Mills and was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Kannapolis, where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and an usher. He also enjoyed traveling and attending meetings with an older adult group at the church known as the Keen-Agers. The Steen family would like to thank the caregivers who lovingly cared for Perry when he was at home, as well as, the staff of Concord Place Assisted Living and Autumn Care Nursing Center. A funeral service will be conducted at 3:30 pm Wednesday, December 23, 2009, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Norman Brisson officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:15 PM Wednesday at Lady's Funeral Home. The family requests that any memorial gifts be donated to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081 in memory of Mr. Steen.
