Johnny Walter Starnes's Obituary

Mr. Johnny Walter Starnes, 77, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2026, at Atrium Health Cabarrus in Concord.

A funeral service is scheduled for 3:30 pm Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Richard Smith will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:15 pm Wednesday at Lady's Funeral Home.

Johnny was born April 4, 1949 in Cabarrus County. He was a son of the late Andy Taft Starnes and Carrie Mae Hartsell Starnes. He was a member of Restoration Church in Rockwell. He retired from Cannon Mills where he worked as a mounted hauler. He enjoyed rides through the country and watching Gunsmoke. He also enjoyed gardening, NASCAR and the Washington Redskins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Janice Ann Dixon, Gracie S. McRorie, Rebecca Treadway and Mary Brown; and five brothers, Kenneth Ray Starnes, William Starnes, Baxter Starnes, David Starnes and Richard Starnes.

Johnny is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Towell Starnes; two sons, Johnny Walter Starnes, Jr. of Kannapolis and William Starnes and wife Valerie of Rockwell; sister, Belinda Dunlap of Kannapolis; grandson, Seth Starnes; and his beloved cat, Ash.

A special thank to the nurses and doctors in the ICU Unit and Post Surgical 3 Unit at Atrium Health Cabarrus.
