Joseph Payne Roberts

Mr. Joseph Payne "Joe" Roberts, 95, of 286 Beverly Drive NE, Concord, died Sunday, July 12, 2009, at Tucker Hospice House. A graveside service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at Carolina Memorial Park. The Rev. Susan German will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by the US Army. The family will greet friends after the service and is also receiving friends at the home. Born October 8, 1913 in Cabarrus County, he was the son of the late John Payne Roberts and Esther Walter Roberts. He retired several years ago as the manager of Haywood-Richmond Hardware Store. Mr. Roberts served his country in the US Army during World War II. He was a member of the former McKinnon Presbyterian Church. His wife, Geneva "Neva" Whitley Roberts, preceded him in death. Survivors include his daughter, Neva Jo Roberts, of the home; a sister, Iris Porter and husband, Marvin, of Concord; and several nieces and nephews.
