Karen Lanae Byrd

Feb 3, 1965 — Jun 18, 2026

Ms. Karen Lanae Byrd, 61, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis.

A funeral service is scheduled for 3:00 pm Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Church Cemetery in Salisbury.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 2:45 pm Thursday at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel.

Karen was born February 3, 1965 in Concord. She was a daughter of the late Elliott Byrd and Annie Preslar Byrd.

Karen was truly a remarkable person, blessed with a vibrant sense of humor. She had a big heart and was eager to lend a hand to anyone. Her measure for love was endless, and the people in her life loved her deeply. At Autumn Care, her role was more than just a job; it was a calling. The residents adored her, and she cherished them as well. She shared her kindness with her co-workers and made great friendships there.

A passionate animal lover, Karen had a special place in her heart for all animals-especially the strays. Alongside her beloved pets, her sweet dogs and a cat named Stretch, we can only imagine how much they miss her not being there for them.

Karen’s passing leaves a deep sadness in all our lives. Though we mourn her loss, we find comfort in knowing that she is no longer suffering. The love in her life, especially from her family, is an example of the joy she brought to those around her. Her oldest sister, Pat, was known as "Mama Pat" ever since her childhood. They shared an unbreakable bond together. This time is especially difficult for Pat, and we stand together to support one another.

Karen had a gift for music; she could play the guitar and sing gospel songs, filling any room with affection and talent. Above all, she loved her family and had the love of Jesus in her heart. From a young age, Karen understood the teachings of God, Heaven, and the Angels. She believed that death is a transition, and we take comfort in our faith during this delicate time. The scripture reminds us, "To be absent in body is to be present with the Lord."

As we gather to honor her memory, let us hold onto the love and laughter she shared with all of us. Though she may no longer be with us, the impact Karen made will be felt in our hearts forever. We are grateful for the time we were able to share with her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Frankie Morton; sister, Judy Frances Byrd; and brother, Elliott "Bill" Byrd.

Karen is survived by sister, Patricia Childress and husband Kenneth "Happy" of China Grove.

Memorials may be sent to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
