Katherine Smith Carter

Mrs. Katherine Smith Carter, 93, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2018, at Caremoor Retirement Center in Kannapolis.

A funeral service is scheduled for Monday, May 14, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. J. R. Beaver will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Monday prior to the service.

Mrs. Carter was born June 9, 1924 in Kannapolis, NC. She was a daughter of the late Burtis Elijah Smith and Pearl Sides Smith. She was a member of Jackson Park Baptist. Mrs. Carter retired from the Paymasters Office of Cannon Mills.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, James Harold Carter who died on January 2, 2018.

Mrs. Carter is survived by a son, Harold Steven Carter and wife Mary Rae of Simpsonville, SC; a daughter, Susan McCurdy of Lenexa, Kansas; a sister, Betty Moss and husband Ray of Williamsburg, VA; four grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
