Kathryn Mary Prince, age 61, of Concord, North Carolina peacefully passed away in her home on March 16, 2026. From a young age, Kathryn found joy in creativity. This passion led her to the University of Michigan where she earned a Fine Arts degree in Industrial Design. In the years since, her creativity bloomed in every aspect of her life and became a currency to spread her joy, share her compassion, and ensured the things she touched were unique and one-of-a-kind. She will be remembered through her cherished House of the Woods, her work as an industrial designer in the automotive industry, her set and costume designs, custom gowns, elaborately carved watermelons, beloved gardens and her volunteer creative mind for countless organizations, including Wings of Eagles Ranch, St. James the Greater Catholic Church, A.T. Allen Elementary School and Piedmont Dance Theater. Kathryn brought such innovation, generosity, and artistic perspective to this world, that those surrounding her could not help but be inspired.
Kathryn will continue her commitment to support others even after her passing. She has chosen to donate her brain to the University of Miami Brain Endowment Bank to further research in the understanding of glioblastoma tumors, offering continued hope to others facing this disease.
We are all blessed to have had Kathryn in our lives. She touched this world and has left behind a legacy of beauty. She is survived by her husband, Ian Prince, and her daughter, Lillian Prince. She is also survived by parents, Chester and Joann Zaleski, her siblings Linda Glanister, Beth Ann Swiatek (Edward), David Zaleski (Robin), Michelle Doherty (James), her brother-in-law, Jason Prince (Teresa), and sisters-in-law Lisa McGuire (Dan) and Michele Chandler. She was predeceased by her in-laws Norman Prince and Valerie Prince and sister, Patricia Zaleski.
Following an ad in the local newspaper for a new therapy center just down the road, Kathryn and Ian built the first barns, paddocks and arenas that later became a renown therapeutic horseback riding center. For 25 years, Kathryn was dedicated to their mission of supporting adults and children with special needs, building strength, balance and self-esteem through equine assisted therapy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Kathryn’s name to Wings of Eagle Ranch, 4800 Faith Trails, Concord, North Carolina, 28025. Or text RANCH to 73256 and select Memorial Gift.
An open-air memorial service will be held at Wings of Eagles Ranch on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at 1:30 PM, with a reception following. Please wear colors that embrace Kathryn’s creative spirit. The ranch is located at 4800 Faith Trails, Concord, North Carolina, 28025.
