The children of Lacy M. Brumley, “Little” Lacy, Joy and Lori, want the world to know that an epic model of son, husband, son-in-law, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend has completed his life’s journey on earth. Born on a farm in Cabarrus County, September 21, 1930, our Daddy was raised by two strong and loving parents, Ida Mae Crisco who was married to William Davis Brumley. Our grandmother passed before we were born, and our grandfather passed while we were young children. They had to have been exceptionally wonderful people because their legacy lived on in our Daddy and his siblings - Bill, Joe, Donnie and Valda (all deceased), Iris and Doris, his twin sisters, who loved him so much and were faithful visitors while he was in assisted living. These relatives became to us, “The Brumleys.” The Brumley in-laws we have lost over time were a big part of Daddy‘s life. He loved them all! “The Brumleys” are a family full of uncles, aunts, and cousins, strong in exhibiting loving, honest, and committed family values.
A graveside service is scheduled for 11:00 am Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at Carolina Memorial Park. Pastor Mike Roper will officiate. Interment will follow.
We never heard our Daddy raise his voice or utter an unkind word about another individual. It just wasn’t in his nature. That kind of character is worth more than any riches on earth! He was a gentle, strong, giant of a man who would give you the shirt off his back. Not an ounce of self-pride lived within him, well, when he stood in front of the mirror after shaving, the smell of Old Spice in the air, he would smile, wink his eye and tell us, “That’s a purty man in that mirror!” He was a handsome man! We would look up at him and giggle with glee! We loved him so! He loved to laugh and play practical jokes on his friends. Bringing joy into other’s lives is what he enjoyed and did best. He was a dedicated provider, a faithful and hard-working employee, who was a rock of selfless support to his family. If he had it, he would share it. As his children, we knew we could talk to him about anything and he would have a wise, gentle, yet strong voice of reason for us to consider. And one other thing, our Daddy showed up! If his children were involved, he was there to show his support. Such an awesome Daddy he was!
Daddy showed us how to love. He was married to our lovely mother, Maxine Inman Brumley. We are so blessed to still have her with us. He showed us perseverance and dedication to marriage. He loved her oh so well! He’d lovingly call her Momma...when they spoke in general conversation, but when they flirted, it was Max. “Max...give me a little shugga!” Their love story survived for 67 years until his passing and will continue into eternity.
As grandfather to “Little” Lacy’s daughter (Melissa Barnhart), Joy’s children (Jeff Livengood and Brittany Godwin), and Lori’s son (Austin Carithers), the opportunity to have the best of both worlds was available to them. Our Daddy was as dedicated and committed to them as his grandchildren as he was to us as his children. They called him “Pop.” Pop was always available, involved, and had tons of love and support to give them. They blessed him with eight beautiful great-grands - Jaylin, Rylee Paige, Haley, Bailey, Brantley, Colton, Bristol and Maxton.
As a son-in-law, our grandmother Betty May Inman who is deceased, loved her Lacy. He was always there for her in times of need. As a brother-in-law, Daddy filled that role lovingly to Bill, Sandra, EJ and Euphemia, deceased, and to Kathleen, John and Rosette, who are feeling his great loss as a “brother.”
We have a large family of cousins on both sides of the family who loved our Daddy well and will miss his presence in their lives. We are sure they will all tell you; they loved their Uncle Lacy.
At the beautiful age of 91 he was blessed to have had many friends and family members, many who have passed on before him. We celebrate knowing his homecoming in heaven was joyful and well attended. We are most comforted by his meeting Jesus. He was ready to meet his Savior. If you had the opportunity to know him, a deposit of good was left in your life. You are blessed.
We will forever have a great void in our lives without his voice to be heard, his laughter to join in on, his jokes to play, his eyes to sparkle, and his heart to receive his unconditional love. What a man he was, what a man indeed! We so love you Daddy! Job well done! Lovingly written by your children, Lacy, Joy and Lori.
