Leila Alice Watkins

Mrs. Leila Alice Shinn Watkins, 102, passed away Friday, October 25, 2013, at Big Elm Nursing Center in Kannapolis.

A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Monday, October 28, 2013, at Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church. Mr. Mike Johnson will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 1:45 pm Monday at Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church prior to the service.

Mrs. Watkins was born June 12, 1911 in Rowan County. She was a daughter of the late Fredrick Eugene Shinn and Elizabeth Hoffner Shinn. She formerly worked for Cannon Mills and retired from Stayon in Landis. She was a member of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Garren Watkins, Sr.; and her sister, Mary Shinn Jordan.

Mrs. Watkins is survived by two sons, Charles William Watkins and wife Judith of Raleigh and Garren Watkins, Jr. and wife Nancy of China Grove; and three grandchildren, Jeffrey Scott Watkins, Emily Watkins and Laura Elizabeth Watkins Froelich.
