Lela Mae Starnes Haley

Mrs. Lela Mae Starnes Haley, 87, of 708 Pearl Avenue, Kannapolis, died Wednesday, September 18, 2002, at her residence following six weeks of declining health. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Saturday, September 21, 2002, at Lane Street Baptist Church. Dr. Greg Pierce will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 PM Friday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the home of a granddaughter, Donna Smith, of 708 Sloop Avenue. Mrs. Haley was born January 4, 1915 in Mt. Croghan, SC. She was a daughter of the late Thomas M. Starnes and Lessie Melton Starnes. She retired from the sewing room of Cannon Mills in 1982 after 45 years of employment. She was a member of Lane Street Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Alexander Haley, on August 13, 1969. Mrs. Haley is survived by a son, Franklin "Bankie" Moore of Kannapolis; two grandchildren, Donna Smith and Kim Blackman; seven great granchildren, Chris Greeson, Ryan Blackman, Andrew Blackman, Ashley Blackman, Brandi Blackman, Justin Smith, and Travis Smith.
