Mr. Leland "Lanny" Everett Fry, 58, of Vanowen Street, North Hollywood, CA, died Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at his home. A funeral service will be conducted for Mr. Fry at 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 14, 2007, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel, Kannapolis, NC. The Rev. Leon Hawks will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 7 P M Friday, prior to the funeral service. Leland was born on April 5, 1949 in Spangler, PA, the son of Leland B. Fry and Margaret Hopkins Fry. He was an employee of the US Postal Service, where he had worked for 21 years and was a member of the NALC, Tri-Valley Branch # 2902 in Chatsworth, CA. A former sergeant in the US Army, he received three Silver Air Medals as a helicopter door gunner in Vietnam. A lover of nature, Leland enjoyed hunting and fishing, and also enjoyed writing poetry. Survivors include his parents, Leland B. Fry and Margaret H. Fry of Kannapolis, NC; four sisters, Linda Davis and her husband, Russ, Doris Matthews, Sandy Hilton, and Sharon Lydic and her husband Tom, all of Kannapolis; and a number of nieces and nephews. A service of remembrance will be conducted the first week in November in Westover, PA with burial in the Harmony Cemetery, Westover, PA.
