Mrs. Leona DeMarcus Bentley, 95, formerly of Sycamore Avenue, Kannapolis, died Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at Best of Care in Kannapolis. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 30, 2009, at Calvary Baptist Church. The Rev. Joel Ervin and the Rev. Max Smith will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church. At other times, they will be at the home of a daughter, Gail Baucom, 1310 Klondale Ave. Extension, Kannapolis. Born August 29, 1913 in Durham, NC, she was the daughter of the late Lonnie S. DeMarcus and Etta Mohorn DeMarcus. She retired after 52 years of employment from Cannon Mills, Plant No. 1. Mrs. Bentley was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she was director of the Children's Sunday School department for many years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard B. Bentley; son, Jackie Partee Bentley; son-in-law, Charles W. Stimson; two sisters, Hazel Griffin and Ellen Safrit; and a brother, L. S. DeMarcus, Jr. Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis B. Stimson, Gail Baucom and husband, Don, both of Kannapolis; four grandchildren, Lisa S. Lampton and husband, Keith, Scott Baucom and wife, Sharon, Ben Baucom and wife, Jennifer, Amy B. Gillon and husband, David; and five great-grandchildren, Blair Morgan and husband, Matt; Tyler Baucom, Riley Gayle Baucom, Nathan Baucom and Braden Baucom.
