Mr. Les W. McAlpin, of South Philadelphia, PA and most recently of Vero Beach, FL, died Sunday, August 7, 2005, at his home in Kannapolis. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2005, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. The family will receive friends at the church for 45 minutes prior to the service on Wednesday. Mr. McAlpin was born June 1, 1925, in Philadelphia, PA. He was the last of seven sons of the Samuel and Louise Snider McAlpin. During World War II he served 19 months aboard the "Citgo Bay" in the South Pacific. He later worked at the Naval Depot on Robbins Avenue in Philadelphia from 1947 until 1980. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Megan Laine McAlpin; and brothers, Elmer, Samuel, Albert, Charles, Howard and Leonard. Survivors include his beloved wife, Madelaine Mallon McAlpin; a son, Michael McAlpin; two daughters, Mary Louise Walsh and Debbie Norris; and five grandchildren, Bill Norris, Tracy Walsh, Timmy Norris, Danny Walsh and Joey McAlpin.
