Mr. Lewis Edward Russell, 89, of 4329 Rainbow Drive, died Thursday, October 2, 2008, at Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast in Concord. A graveside service is scheduled for 4:00 pm Sunday, October 5, 2008, at Bethpage Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The Rev. Darryl Baker & the Rev. Roger Head will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2to 3:45 p.m. Sunday at Bethpage Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall. At other times, they will be at the residence. Mr. Russell was born November 11, 1918 in Cabarrus County. He was a son of the late William Columbus Russell and Janie McDaniel Russell. He retired from Cannon Mills where he worked as a carpenter. He was a member of Bethpage Presbyterian Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Smith and Beulah Wright; a brother, Sam Russell; and a granddaughter, Dena Russell Earnhardt. Mr. Russell is survived by his wife, Helen Overcash Russell; two daughters, Margaret Gibson and husband, Ken of China Grove and Becky Farmer and husband, Larry of Kannapolis; son, Richard W. Russell and wife, Sally of Kannapolis; six grandchildren, Debbie, Sherry, Susan, Jackie, Ricky, Bobby; 12 great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethpage Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund, 6020 Mooresville Road, Kannapolis, NC 28081 or to Blackwelder Park Baptist Church, 2204 Summit Avenue, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
