Mrs. Linda Ilaine Turner McVay, 65, of Kannapolis, died Sunday, August 2, 2009 at Carolinas Medical Center-Mercy. She was born in Wilmington, North Carolina on February 7, 1944. She was the daughter of Clayton and Grace Melton, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Marion Turner. Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Gerald (Jerry) McVay; a daughter, Sharon O'Brien and husband Michael of Charlotte; three sons, Robert (Bob) McVay and wife Sandy, Michael McVay and wife, Kristi, and David McVay and wife Crystal, all of Kannapolis; one sister, Louise Whitley and husband Vernon of China Grove; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Linda was a devoted wife, sister, daughter, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and one of the most unselfish people in the world. She was a caregiver all of her life. She cared for and helped raise her siblings, cared for and raised four children, and in the months before her death cared for her youngest grandson. She continued to give through years of having Lupus and being ill. A private memorial service to honor and celebrate her life will be held Tuesday, August 4, 2009, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Tim McQueen will officiate. The family is making headquarters at the home of Bob and Sandy McVay, 5320 Mooresville Road, Kannapolis.
