Mrs. Lois Estelle Taylor "Shine" Hargett Brooks, 98 1/2 (Almost 100), formerly of Evelyn Avenue, passed away Monday, August 16, 2010, at Carolina Care Center in Cherryville, NC. A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Wednesday, August 18, 2010, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Tim Newton will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis. The family will receive friends from 12 to 1:45 pm Wednesday at Lady's Funeral Home. Mrs. Brooks was born February 8, 1912 in Galax, VA. She was a daughter of the late Clarence H. Taylor and Ada Mae Haga Taylor. She was formerly employed with Cannon Mills Plant One sewing room for 45 years. She retired in 1978 from General Times Clock Manufacturing where she worked in the Quality Control Department. Following her retirement, she worked at K&W Cafeteria in Concord. She was a member of Christian Fellowship Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Johnie Alvin Hargett in May 1969 and her second husband, Harold F. Brooks, Sr. in May 1975; one son, Ben M. Hargett, Sr.; two sisters, Erma Brown and Geneva Luther; and three brothers, Oren Taylor, John Taylor and Jesse Taylor. Mrs. Brooks is survived by one daughter, Carolyn S. Morris and husband, George, of Casar, NC; one son, Harold F. Brooks, Jr. of Tacoma, WA; two sisters, Inez Harrington of Kannapolis and Virginia Allred of Siler City, NC; six grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Christian Fellowship Church, 1505 Central Drive, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
