Lois Walker Smith

January 26, 1923 — April 10, 2010

Mrs. Lois Walker Smith, 87, of 6762 Davidson Highway, Concord, died Saturday, April 10, 2010, at her home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at Bethpage Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Rick Hoffarth and the Rev. Phillip Kingsland will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the home. Born January 26, 1923 in Kannapolis, she was the daughter of the late Sylvanus (Van) Walker and Minnie Gheen Walker. She was a member of Bethpage Presbyterian Church, Kannapolis since she was 12 years old. She was very active within her church, serving as Deacon and Elder, teaching Sunday School and serving in all aspects of the Presbyterian Women as well as various positions within the Charlotte Presbytery. Lois worked for Concord- Kannapolis Savings and Loan until 1970. She then joined Piedmont Area Mental Health until she retired in 1987. She was an active member of the Gleaners Club and Bible Club of Kannapolis YMCA. When she was not busy with other activities, Lois loved to work in her yard as well as travel. Lois was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Marvin Joseph Smith, who died in 1987; a sister, Ruby Gauger in 2002; and a grandson, Chris Smith, who died in 2005. Lois is survived by two sons Marvin Joseph (Joey) Smith, Jr. and wife Hazel H. Snead Smith and Tommy Smith and wife Carla Spry Smith; three grandchildren, Marvin Joseph (Joel) Smith III, Margret Howard and Sarah Smith; three great-grandchildren, Taylor Smith, Troy Howard and Carson Howard. The family wishes to thank Paula and Larry Donahue for all the love and care given to Lois during her short illness. Memorials may be sent to Bethpage Presbyterian Church, 6020 Mooresville Road, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
