Mrs. Maggie Allene Gaither, 101, passed away Friday, September 4, 2026, at Trellis Supportive Care, Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem.

Maggie was born March 8, 1925, in Rowan County, North Carolina, to the late Andrew Lester Self and Rosa Lee Callicutt.

Allene was a true Renaissance woman. For many years, she owned and operated Allene's Salon of Beauty on North Cannon Boulevard in Kannapolis. She was also a world traveler, singer, musician and a passionate artist that blessed her family and friends with her paintings.

She was a woman of faith, courage, and determination and a beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She leaves behind a large and loving family who will continue to draw inspiration from her life and legacy.

In addition to her parents, Allene was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Gaither; her son, Douglas Wayne Gaither; and three sisters, Kathleen Overcash, Blondell Overcash, and Ramona Stone.

She is survived by her daughter, Yvonne Leigh Allen and husband Keith; daughter-in-law, Jill Gaither; three grandsons, Peter Aaron Birdsong and wife Amanda, Nathaniel Birdsong and wife Tiffany, and Benjamin Bartholomew Birdsong and wife Marianna; and nine great-grandchildren, Addison Elizabeth Birdsong, Spartacus Paul Birdsong, Magnolia Kincaid Birdsong, Lynlee Grace Birdsong, Logan Grace Birdsong, Thomas Andrew Birdsong, Josiah Birdsong, Judah Elijah Birdsong, and Isaac Ephraim Birdsong.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated in her memory to Trellis Supportive Care Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem NC 27103.
